Qualification profile (in german)
Regular period of study: three years (6 semesters of 30 credit points = 180 CP).
Two independent "degree subjects" are studied - one of which is geography with 75 credit points.
New guidelines and new study regulations were introduced for HS2021. These guidelines and study regulations also apply to all students who were already matriculated in the degree subject geography. All academic achievements completed up to that point will be transferred so that no disadvantages result from this change.
All students who transfer to the Master's program from HS2021 onwards will complete their Master's studies in accordance with the HS2021 guidelines/study regulations.
The HS2021 guidelines apply to all matriculated students, including those who began their studies before HS2021. These guidelines were updated as of HS24:
Guidelines for the extra-faculty subject Geography in Bachelor's studies dated June 25, 2024 (in german only)
(old version of the guidelines dated May 25, 2021 (in german only))
Study regulations HS2021 valid for all students who do not graduate in FS2021 (in german only).
Here are a few tips to supplement the guidelines.
Study program
On average, approx. 10 CP should be earned per semester with courses during the lecture period. Outside the lecture period, a further 15 CPs are earned through the vocational internship and any block courses.
As there are many different subject combinations, it is not possible to create a fixed timetable. Ideally, the courses of the module "Specialist Foundations of Geography" should be completed in the first two semesters. This is not always possible, as there may be overlaps with compulsory courses in the other subject. If this is the case, please contact the Earth Sciences Office, which can advise you and recommend courses from the other modules that can be completed without prior knowledge.
Main lecture exam
Geography is a degree subject of the Faculty of Science. Therefore, the regulations of this faculty also apply to all examinations.
Special attention must be paid to the so-called main lecture exams, i.e. the assessment formats for the "core lectures". Main lecture exams require a special registration procedure.
In the degree subjects geography, this is the only course (LV) that is the core lectures with practical course "System Earth: Man and Environment" (LV no. 14252). It is important to know that the core lectures "System Earth: Man and Environment" is an annual course and the main lecture exam only takes place after the end of the spring semester. It is therefore necessary to take the course registration in HS and FS. The date of the main lecture exam can be found on the website of the Faculty of Phil-Nat
You are automatically registered for the assessment registrations of all other courses by registering in MOnA. These assessment formats usually take place during the lecture period. Unless, for example, there are block courses that take place during the lecture-free period.

Vocational internship
Before concluding an employment contract, you should check with the degree course office for earth sciences whether the internship is recognized as a vocational internship.
A learning contract must then be entered in the MOnA account under "Learning contracts". Please note this example for correct completion (the personal details are automatically inserted). For 8 weeks: 10 CP, for 9 weeks: 11 CP and for 10 weeks: 12 CP are credited. Please leave the status "in progress" and inform the degree program office for earth sciences by e-mail so that it is still possible to check and make any changes. Alternatively, the learning contract can also be drawn up on site at the Geosciences degree program office. Signatures are no longer required - the entire process is now digital only
The activity report must be 2-3 pages long - no further formalities need to be observed. Submit the report and a copy of the employment reference to the Earth Sciences Office. Further information on vocational internships can be found in the guidelines.
Conclusion
It is recommended that you send a module assignment to the Earth Sciences Office for review before the start of the lecture period of the last semester. This will ensure that all necessary courses have been completed or taken.
Bachelor's degree with geography as the degree subject
For the degree, a so-called "degree application" must be submitted within a certain period of time - see https://philhist.unibas.ch/de/studium/termine/
This application includes both degree subjects - so there is no need to submit anything extra for geography - the procedure, form etc. can be found at https://www.philhist.unibas.ch/de/studium/termine/
Degree BSc Sport Movement and Health: Sport Science with the degree subject Geography
see - https://dsbg.unibas.ch/de/studium/studium-a-z/ - there is no need to submit anything extra for geography.
