Geo Sciences
The Atmospheric Sciences research group investigates the role of particulate matter (aerosol particles) in the atmosphere and various meteorological processes.
The teaching and research activities of our group focus on biogeochemical processes and their isotope geochemical signatures in aquatic systems.
The "Geoecology" research group deals with environmental influences on biotic systems in the past, present and future. It investigates the ecology and biogeography of specialized groups of organisms.
The "Land Use Change" research group aims to understand interrelated processes of global change and their effects on the scarce resource of land as well as possible conflicting objectives in the use of biomass.
The Hydrogeology research group aims to improve the conceptual and quantitative understanding of surface water-groundwater interactions in different environments. The Applied and Environmental Geology (AUG) working group is also part of this professorship.
The Organic Geochemistry group focuses on the use of chemical markers to reconstruct the interactions between plants, humans and climate in the recent geological past.
Physiogeography records, organizes and explains the natural environment of mankind. The development of the near-surface area of the earth, which is critical for life, is of particular importance.
The Quaternary period covers the last 2.66 million years and is characterized by cyclical changes in global ice volume. These cycles had a profound impact on the climate and ecosystems.
The "Environmental Geosciences" group is interested in terrestrial biogeochemical material cycles with a focal area of soil changes. The focus is on soil-atmosphere and soil-hydrosphere interactions and transport processes.
